“Monstrous Books and Crystal Lake Publishing present DARKEST DEPTHS, a new black-and-white comic anthology series devoted to extreme horror.

The 50+ page book is dedicated to our late friend and partner Taylor Grant, who passed away before we could launch this project. Profits will go to his son Zane. More on that below.

The launch of DARKEST DEPTHS had been planned for 2023 as a joint project among Crystal Lake Publishing, Bram Stoker award winner James Aquilone, and acclaimed horror author and producer Taylor Grant. Sadly, after Taylor fell ill, the campaign was put on hold. Taylor, who was a development executive at Stan Lee Media and Head of Global Animation at Wattpad WEBTOON Studios, ultimately passed away from cancer in September 2024.

Now DARKEST DEPTHS will serve as a tribute to Taylor and feature the last comic story he wrote, “It Lives in Darkness.” Additionally, profits from this crowdfunding campaign will be donated to his son Zane.

Taylor believed in helping others and DARKEST DEPTHS will continue his legacy of mentorship by giving writers the opportunity to break into the comic book industry. Following the campaign, submissions will open for additional stories, the number depending on the campaign’s final funding level. It is our hope that the DARKEST DEPTHS series will be the launching pad for many aspiring comic book writers. “

A big plot point of Omega Eleven is that Doctor Omega and Jack mess up space time so badly that reality converges creating amalgams (or mashups) of classic characters, like Aresene Lupin/Phantom of the Opera, Popeye/Sinbad, James Moriarty/Mickey Mouse.. obvious pair ups lol. So I was looking for a mashup for Sherlock Holmes when the new Nosferatu remake started dropping teasers, when it hit me I immediately DMed James..

I think the design sold James pretty hard on him

I had a crazy idea involving Dr Doolittle and then Mowgli as his partner but James thought it made more sense to do a mash up of Watson and Renfield so i present to you.. Watsfield..

I HAD to do a cover, since we wanted to a one shot anyway but I liked this cover so much we decided to use it as one of the issue 2 variants…

This is my first creator owned Kickstarter, I’m collabing with writer James Aquillone who’s work you might know from that big Kolchak anthology a while back. We’ll be including James’ Monstrous magazine #2 as well as a bunch of other stuff.

We have 5 covers to choose from. By me, Dave Acousta, and J.K. Woodward. I did two homage covers, Rick & Morty and Calvin & Hobbes, which both come with stickers.

2023 was the worst year. Glad it’s over.

People doing their year in reviews and I don’t even want to think about anything other than doing more comics. I’m going to attempt to post a lot more art, comic strips, and regular comic book pages.

I might try to do a little strip almost everyday, they’re good warm ups and don’t take long, we’ll see. If I somehow break my nature and stick with it that would mean me popping in your inbox a bunch. If so, sorry.. If you’re anything like me your inbox is slammed by a jillion crap emails everyday anyway.. so maybe, since its comics, its less spammy.

”Spam” is weird word ..ham and spa? …Ham Spa! Bunch of little pigs hanging down at the spa, must be how they came up with that word, someone seen a pig getting a massage. No other explanation.

We learned something today kids, and that’s all that matters.

Happy Easter, or whatever it was yesterday

Welp, It’s been awhile. I need to use this site more and get back to doing my strip regularly for my own brain comfort, so I’m uploading the rest of this little storyline then will leave the rest of the backlog to use as filler. I’d like to post 5 days a week, that’d be awesome. I’ve never been able to stick with stuff like that but my mood now feels like I need it. If i get as addicted to this as I am to chicken nuggets and soda it wouldn’t be a problem. I’ll post again here in a bit with more information about what’s going on with me.

It’s full of a lot of shirts and coasters I’ve designed. I’m still working on getting stickers and more posters up. ALSO, I’m using a supplier so the materials are different than what I sell at cons. So if you’re wanting to complete that coaster set you got from me at a con they wont exactly match the tile ones I make.
